Traveling far from their home country of Guyana, Shaliendra Goutam and Irene Bahadur both sought a better life for themselves and the family they always wanted. It all started when Shailendra and Irene's grandmothers were best friends and in a conversation came to the realization that they both had a single niece and nephew. They exchanged their contacts with each other and the rest was history. Shailendra and Irene wrote to each other for years, across islands and even continents. Despite the distance they were endlessly devoted to each other and decided to start a life together in Canada in the year 1995. Dealing with the culture shocks of a new country they were forced into a new normal, got jobs, citizenship, and education. Upon settling in the town of Scarborough, ON they started a family. In spite of the couple dealing with the change, growth, and loss they still remain committed to each other to this day.
